What is Urgent Care?
Urgent Care or GP?
A general practitioner (GP) is a primary care physician who provides a range of healthcare services to patients, including diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and injuries, preventive care, and health management. GPs typically have a long-term relationship with their patients and provide ongoing care and support.
Urgent care centres, on the other hand, are designed to provide prompt medical attention for injuries and illnesses that are not life-threatening but still require prompt attention. Urgent care centres are often open outside of standard hours and on weekends and do not require an appointment. They may be a good option for conditions that cannot wait until the next business day to be treated, but are not severe enough to warrant a visit to the emergency department.
In general, if you have a chronic condition or need ongoing medical care, you should see a GP. If you have an acute injury or illness that requires prompt attention, an urgent care center may be a good option. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, such as severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, or loss of consciousness, you should go to the nearest emergency department or call 000.
