If you or your loved one has experienced a head knock with suspected concussion, Heal Specialist Urgent Care can provide immediate assessment and After Care, to ensure a safe return to normal activities and sport. Someone with suspected concussion needs to be assessed as soon as possible. If they have experienced prolonged unconsciousness, seizure, or are not responding, call an ambulance. Other signs of concussion that require immediate attention include:
  • Headache
  • Visual disturbance
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Memory loss/confusion/repeated questioning
Patients can be transported by car to Heal Specialist Urgent Care Newcastle or Maitland for immediate assessment. Make a booking here or walk in on the day of injury.

Heal Specialist Urgent Care

offers Specialist led assessment, and can also provide treatments and procedures that might be required for associated injuries.

We use the internationally recognised Sports Concussion Assessment Tool SCAT6 to assess the severity of the concussion.

After the initial assessment and care at Heal Specialist Urgent Care, patients can access our After Care Concussion Clinic for ongoing treatment and final sign off documentation, ensuring a safe and timely return to normal activities and sport. 

The After Care Concussion Clinic runs every Thursday afternoon at Heal Newcastle and is managed by a team of Specialist Physicians. The first clinic will take place on 2nd May 2024. Patients must have their initial concussion assessment through Heal Specialist Urgent Care Newcastle or Maitland to be eligible to join the After Care Concussion Clinic.

All records of care associated with the concussion injury and its management can be shared with the patient’s primary healthcare provider and sporting club/ association as required.
